The taste is dominated by malt with a relatively dry finish, with hops coming in second with subtle notes of herbs and spices. Medium body with medium bite. Historically, Märzen was the last beer brewed in March and was stored in lager cellars until autumn. We do not adhere to this tradition with our Easter special, which is why we state that it is only inspired by the Märzen style.

VORKLOSTER LIGHT MÄRZEN
For centuries, traditional Märzen (Czech: březňák, or March beer) was the last beer brewed in the spring. Between St. George's Day (April 24) and St. Michael's Day (September 29), it was forbidden to brew beer. This was due to the risk of fire and insufficient cooling technology. In order for Märzen to survive in the best possible condition, it was brewed strong and with a higher alcohol content. Stylistically, it historically developed as a stronger version of Vienna lager and was rather darker; the lighter versions of Märzen that were produced later became part of the later style known as festbier. Only traditional ingredients are used in the brewing process, i.e., Pilsner malt, Vienna malt, Munich malt, and a little light caramel malt. It is hopped only with Žatec semi-early red hops. The beer has a beautiful full, rich golden-orange color and a rich head. The aroma is bread-like from the malts used, with subtle notes of bread crust. The taste is dominated by the depth and fullness of the malt, with the hops dosed to merely underscore the flavor. However, the finish is dry due to the beer's fermentation. The overall profile is clean, elegant, harmonious, and inviting you to take another sip.

Vorkloster Doppelmärzen
According to historical sources, a stronger version of classic Märzen was called dopplemärzen. It is similar to how dopplebock is a stronger alternative to bock. The word doppel naturally leads us to imagine a beer that is twice as strong. However, this is not the case; it is "only" a higher alcohol content, which did not reach the level of doppelbock. In addition, the ingredients used are different, and it is more of a strong variant of Vienna lager. Some claim that doppelmärzen is essentially bock, but the ingredients used—predominantly Vienna malt—and its overall characteristics, which are not as strong as classic bock and are slightly more hoppy and less malty, set it apart. If we leave aside the historical discussions, it is a unique beer that is brewed by only a handful of breweries and is a rare event in our country.
The beer has a beautiful full, rich amber color and a rich head. The aroma is dominated by the malt used, with subtle notes of nuts, almonds, and honey. The hops used are more noticeable in the taste, but the maltiness definitely does not play second fiddle. The finish is harmonious, dignified, and unique, much like this style of beer.
